Research

Research project leaders are the core drivers of ACET’s research programme. Project leaders coordinate individual projects’ research activities and financial planning, and are supported by ACET’s management and governance structures as well as by the partner institutions at which they are based.

Management and governance

The ACET Secretariat undertakes the day to day management of ACET. It reports to VREF and the Governing Board on the progress and funding of research projects; liaises with the Scientific Advisory Panel; convenes annual Governing Board meetings; disburses funds to project researchers; organises ACET meetings and scientific workshops; manages the ACET and online learning websites; and provides publication support.

The ACET Governing Board meets annually to: assess the management and direction of ACET; consider advice from the Scientific Advisory Panel regarding the progress of the research programme and its constituent projects; and assess each research project’s progress. The Board consists of representatives from each partner institution and selected international advisors.

The Scientific Advisory Panel provides independent peer-review of the quality of research projects, as well as of the research programme as a whole, including interim project reports, scholarly publications (i.e. journal articles, book chapters and conference papers) and project progress reports. The Panel is made up of recognised international researchers and practitioners who are involved in fields relating to ACET’s research objectives.

The Partner Working Committee, consisting of representatives from each partner institution, reviews detailed project proposals and postgraduate student progress reports; discusses scholarly publication plans; monitors publication outputs; and adjudicates internal conference attendance applications and postgraduate funding applications.
